Duncan Clark, Renovare Fuels Limited’s Director of Business Development, has held this position since 2016. The UK-based waste-to-energy technology company specialises in converting biogas into liquid transportation fuel, and Renovare Fuels designs, manufactures and markets these new biofuels. The company was founded with a mission to find an ecologically and environmentally sustainable way to meet the growing demand for energy, as well as the huge volume of waste accrual around the world.
By creating and promoting new technologies in the waste-to-energy sector, Renovare Fuels has created a viable substitute for both diesel and Jet A1 fuel, through a process of converting biogas into liquid fuel. Renovare Fuels’ products are virtually identical to those that are derived from fossil fuels, both chemically and physically. Therefore, they can be used as direct replacements for their fossil-fuel derived counterparts, with no need for engine design modifications.
Based on a synergistic combination of two transformative catalyst technologies with advanced process engineering, Renovare Fuels produces a middle distillate fuel, which is more efficiently and cheaply produced than any other rival product.
Renovare Fuels uses biogas as its source material, which is produced in large quantities in landfills, sewage treatment facilities and anaerobic digesters. Using these biogases as the primary energy for its process, Renovare Fuels avoids complications with regards to sustainability, whilst limiting environmental impact and avoiding competition with food supply chains for feedstocks.
Renovare Fuels is fully compliant with the EU’s Renewable Energy Directive sustainability criteria, and the company is proud that its products achieve a reduction of up to 96.8% of greenhouse gases when compared to fossil fuel derived alternatives.
Over the next decade, Renovare Fuels plans to hugely increase its fuel production output, aiming for a target of 250 million litres per annum by 2030. Thanks to the enormous amount of biogas available around the world, Renovare Fuels technology would be able to produce even larger amounts, as the UK alone produces 32 million tons of biodegradable waste every year according to DEFRA.
This waste could be converted to over two
billion litres of Renovare Fuels’ innovative biofuel, and if the company’s
technology was used on a global scale, it could produce over 40 billion litres
of transportation fuel every year.
